Academic Services

Student-athletes have access to a wealth of resources that make their educational endeavors part of a championship experience at Central Michigan University. CMU is committed to ensuring that it provides each individual with the support needed to be as successful in the classroom as in the competitive arena of intercollegiate athletics.

That commitment starts with the efforts of the staff at the Dick Enberg Academic Center located at the Indoor Athletic Complex. Associate Athletics Director in charge of student development, Jason Holtman, along with assistant directors Tera Albrecht and Kelly Higgins, provide advising, support and monitoring for each of CMU's 400-plus student-athletes in 16 varsity sports.

Student-athletes' academic activity is closely monitored and coordinated by the efforts of the staff, which includes over 25 student tutors and mentors. These individuals are dedicated to both maintaining the eligibility of each student-athlete and seeing each student-athlete successfully complete the requirements to earn his or her degree from CMU.

The No. 1 resource available to student-athletes at CMU is the Enberg Academic Center, located inside the Indoor Athletic Complex. The 6,000-squre-foot facility houses a computer lab with 31 workstations, five tutoring rooms, a quiet study room that is monitored at all times and the offices of the full-time academic staff. The convenience of its location, inside the sprawling Indoor Athletic Complex, also sets the Enberg Academic Center apart. The IAC boasts a premier weight room, the Jack Skoog Indoor Track, athletic training facilities and a turf bay, and the building is accessible to student-athletes from 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. during the week.

The facility was dedicated to Dick Enberg, a 1957 CMU graduate and winner of 14 Emmy Awards, on October 12, 2007.

Enberg is known for his work as a sports broadcaster with CBS and NBC. He has covered the Olympics, Super Bowl, Rose Bowl, World Series, U.S. Open, NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament and Wimbledon, among other major sporting events. Enberg is an honorary member of the Academic All-America Hall of Fame and has been inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame, the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Hall of Fame and the CMU Athletic Hall of Fame.
