Athletics Partners with SGA for Traditions and Spirit Trophy

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - School spirit isn't limited to just athletics, so the Central Michigan athletics department has partnered with the university's Student Government Association to help spread CMU's spirit and traditions across the entire campus.

The SGA Traditions and Spirit Committee has designed a torch-themed traveling trophy, built locally by J & R Engraving, that will be awarded to a CMU Registered Student Organization (RSO). The trophy contains a multi-tiered, "piano maroon" finished base supporting the elaborate metal torch.

Throughout a season-long competition, the RSO that has the highest attendance at seven selected events will win the trophy for a year and have its name engraved on the base.

The first Traditions and Spirit Torch event will be held this Sunday, January 16 at 2 p.m. in McGuirk Arena when the wrestling team hosts Michigan Members of each RSO may sign in at the display in the atrium of the CMU Events Center.

Also, be sure to "Like" Central Michigan University or CMU Athletics on Facebook for the latest "Traditions and Spirit Torch" updates, social media contests and additional prizes, trophy photos, and much more.
