MOUNT PLEASANT -- Central Michigan Athletics hosted the Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce and the Detroit Tigers Caravan on Friday as part of the chamber’s Business over Breakfast” on Friday.
Prior to the Tigers' entrance, CMU Athletics Director Dave Heeke addressed the chamber members, as did head baseball coach Steve Jaksa and head softball coach Margo Jonker.
"It's important we help and support one another locally," Heeke said. "It's an exciting time at CMU, and I encourage everyone to stay right here in Mount Pleasant when you're looking for a great university and an outstanding group of young people to support. We have a true gem right here in your own back yard."
Jaksa compared the creation of a successful business to the building of a baseball program.
"You have to have good people to run a successful business," Jaksa said. "The community has always supported our program, and their involvement is very exciting for us."
Jonker also talked about how community members' participation in her program has been critical.
"This community has been very supportive of CMU softball through the years and we really appreciate it," Jonker said. "We're proud of our involvement in the community as well."
Dan Dickerson, the emcee of the event and the voice of the Detroit Tigers, spoke to the recent facility improvements CMU has made.
"What CMU has done on campus is amazing.,” Dickerson said. “I used to travel to Mount Pleasant when Central Michigan hosted the girls' basketball state finals and campus is much different now. The new Events Center is a beautiful facility."
Approximately 300 guests of the Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce attended the private event.
