MOUNT PLEASANT - Two sports. One floor. Simultaneous meets.
Central Michigan's wrestling and gymnastics programs will co-host the inaugural Royal Rumble and Tumble on Sunday at 2 p.m. at McGuirk Arena. The wrestling team squares off against Old Dominion, while at the same time the gymnastics program faces Northern Illinois.
The event serves as the McGuirk Arena Grand Opening for both sports, and the history and tradition of both programs will be celebrated in a special presentation prior to the start of the meet. [Complete list of Grand Opening Event Series ]
Tom Borrelli's wrestling program enters the event fresh off a 19-18 win at Michigan State last weekend and features three individuals ranked in the top 10 nationally, while Jerry Reighard's gymnastics program is a perfect 7-0 entering the Royal Rumble and Tumble.
Tickets are available at Ticket Central, located in the atrium of the CMU Events Center, or by calling 1-888-FIRE-UP2.
A capacity crowd is expected at McGuirk Arena, making this a marquee event for which students will need a free ticket. One free student ticket can be picked up at Ticket Central between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. through Friday.
The Royal Rumble and Tumble also is the third of eight dates in the Traditions and Spirit Torch competition . CMU Registered Student Organization members are reminded to sign in at the display area in the CMU Events Center atrium, and the RSO with the highest attendance at the eight events will receive the traveling trophy at the end of the winter sports season.
