Sophomore gymnast Katie Simon is this week's CMU Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
Simon (Bristol, Wis./Westosha HS), a therapeutic recreation major with a 3.39 GPA, became the first MAC gymnast this season to score above a 39.00 in the
all-around as she finished with a 39.025 at the State of Michigan Classic last weekend.
That was second overall in the meet behind Michigan All-American Lindsey Bruck (39.375). Simon was CMU's top performer on vault (9.775) and beam (a career-high 9.825) while tying with Andrea de la Garza for first on floor (9.700). Simon's 9.825 on beam was just .025 points behind a three-way tie for first.
Each week, one CMU student-athlete is selected as the CMU Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
