Lined up in three rows, spread from end to end of McGuirk Arena, the Central Michigan student-athletes filled the court at halftime on Wednesday.
The 315 Central Michigan student-athletes who earned a 3.0 or higher grade-point average in the 2016 fall semester were honored at the midway point of the women's basketball game against Northern Illinois.
Overall, the 480 CMU student-athletes put together an overall GPA of 3.162 in the fall semester. Student-athletes are spread across 79 different majors at CMU. More than 100 (21 percent) have declared a major in the College of Health Professions. Another 16 percent are in the College of Business and 14 percent are in Science and Engineering.
"I tend not to use the phrase `student-athlete," Director of Athletics Dave Heeke said. "We recruit students, and they get the ultimate experience at CMU. They compete for championships, earn a degree from an outstanding educational institution, and leave here ready to make their mark on the world."
Other notable numbers from the fall semester:
Fifty-one student-athletes were named to the All-Mid-American Conference Academic Team.
It takes a 3.5 GPA or better to make CMU's dean's list, and 179 student-athletes made the cut.
Twenty-nine earned 4.0 in the fall semester.
The women's cross country team (3.642) and golf team (3.627) had the highest team GPAs.
