CMU Athletics to Receive Diversity Award

MOUNT PLEASANT Central Michigan University’s athletics department has been selected to receive a diversity award from the Laboratory for Diversity in Sport at Texas A&M University.

CMU is one of 12 NCAA Division I programs being recognized in the category of Value and Attitudinal Diversity.

“This recognition is a tremendous honor,” said CMU director of athletics Dave Heeke. “Central Michigan University Athletics truly values and strives for diversity at all levels and this award reflects the overall commitment of our department. We will continue to set lofty goals for the future and focus on being a leader in this area of significant importance.”

Through independent research conducted by the Laboratory for Diversity in Sport at Texas A&M and supported by the NCAA, the award winners are those that have achieved the highest total combined survey scores in the areas of diversity strategy, gender diversity of departmental employees, racial diversity of departmental employees, value and attitudinal diversity of departmental employees, graduation of African-American female and male student-athletes, and gender equity compliance.
