Dear Fans and Supporters,
Construction of the new Central Michigan University Events Center is in full swing and the view on West Broomfield Road is changing daily. In the coming months, I will be providing you with frequent updates on the project and will begin to fully communicate the many benefits and features of this new facility that we are anxious to open this winter.
Every aspect of the renovation has been designed to enhance the overall experience of the patrons who utilize the facility. A major initiative related to this goal was improving the quality of seating in all sections and for all events, for people attending concerts, special speakers, graduation or athletic contests.
In this initial Events Center Construction E-Newsletter is a full description of the different seating options to be installed in the new facility. We have created a courtside seat that puts fans in the middle of the action and increased the number of chairback seats in the arena by more than 1,000. We have enhanced the traditional "lower bowl" seating by adding cushioning to both the back and bottom while expanding the amount of space around each seat. And, we have listened to the voices of our patrons in the balconies. The traditional bleacher seating has been replaced with a contoured bench to improve fans' comfort.
From Broomfield you can see the framework of the exterior facilities, including the practice gym, wrestling center and lobby area, to which windows are now being installed. Inside, crews have begun to build new seating structures and prepare for the addition of the new club room. This room will be a place for alumni, businesses, campus groups and other supporters to host special reunions, meetings and socials in a relaxed environment suited for comfort and entertainment.
The CMU Events Center will be a year-round multipurpose facility that will enhance the vital role our university plays in offering educational, social and cultural endeavors to the greater mid-Michigan area. This is truly a first-class example of many people's commitment to the growing success of the university and their vision to position our region as the center of sports and entertainment in our state. This endeavor will dramatically transform and enhance the overall experience of our community, students and visitors alike.
With that, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to "show off" our enhanced seating that will transform the way our patrons experience Chippewa Athletics.
Until next time, Fire Up Chips!
