MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Andy Sneddon, a veteran Michigan sports reporter, has been hired to oversee all the written content for Central Michigan Athletics and serve as the primary beat writer for the department.
Sneddon will also handle the Editor-in-Chief duties of the official website of CMU Athletics, CMUChippewas.com. He will oversee all writing projects for the newly designed website including press releases, game previews and recaps and feature stories.

"Central Michigan Athletics has always had a strong and loyal following and we felt it was important to provide great written content in an era of diminished coverage by media outlets outside of our local market," Director of Communciations Rob Wyman said. "We want to provide fans the best coverage of CMU Athletics at CMUChippewas.com and hiring an experienced and respected journalist like Andy is a big part of that effort."
The Ferndale native most recently worked as a freelance writer, with his work appearing in the Detroit Free Press, Traverse City Record-Eagle, MHSAA.com and several other Michigan newspapers and regional publications.
From 2006-12, Sneddon served as Sports Editor for the Petoskey News-Review, having previously worked as a writer for the newspaper from 1999-2006 and from 1993-97. He also wrote for the Macomb Daily in 1997-98. Prior to his stints in Petoskey, Sneddon was the Sports Editor at the Evening News in Sault Ste. Marie (1992-93) and the Cheboygan Daily Tribune (1990-92).
During his career, Sneddon has earned more than two dozen awards from the Associated Press for feature writing, columns, game stories and sustained coverage. In 2010, while on staff as Sports Editor, the Petoskey News-Review was named Newspaper of the Year by the Michigan Press Association.
Sneddon is a 1990 graduate of Oakland University, earning a bachelor's degree in journalism/communications.
