Chippewa Athletics Announces Reorganization

MOUNT PLEASANT In an effort to maintain its Championship Culture and demonstrate a commitment to its student-athletes, the Central Michigan University Athletics Department and Athletics Director Dave Heeke have announced some reorganization plans.

“This reorganization effort positions our department to meet the challenges of serving our student-athletes while maintaining a highly competitive athletic program that competes both nationally and in the Mid-American Conference,” Heeke said. “We continue to work daily to enhance the Championship Culture that defines CMU Athletics, both in the classroom and competitively.

“We are fortunate to have such outstanding professionals in this organization. Our department and sport programs continue to set milestones and it has been a department-wide effort.”

The restructuring of the department includes the following positions and personnel. The changes are effective immediately.

Athletic Academic Services
Jason Holtman has been promoted to Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development and Sport Administration. He will continue to focus on the overall success of CMU student-athletes in their academic pursuits and their social development. He will also be the sport administrator for baseball.

Chippewa Athletic Fund
Craig Willey was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for the Chippewa Athletic Fund. His efforts will continue to be centered on the expansion of annual fund raising for CMU programs.

Josh Moon has been promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Sport Administration. He will be the sport administrator for men’s and women’s track and field, men’s and women’s cross country and field hockey.

Marketing and Promotions
Nick Williams’ title has changed to Associate Athletic Director for Sales and Corporate Relations. There will be a significant focus on new sources for revenue generation and the maximization of corporate partnerships with radio and television networks, licensing opportunities and advertising packages.
Mike Dabbs has been promoted to Director of Marketing and Promotions. He will be responsible for all marketing and promotional efforts for the department with a special emphasis on increasing overall brand recognition and revenue generation through increased season and single-game ticket sales.

Senior Administration
Senior Associate Athletics Director Marcy Weston will now oversee Athletic Academic Services along with athletics human resources and all the other student-athlete support areas. She will also continue with sport administration responsibilities.
Senior Associate Athletics Director Derek van der Merwe will now supervise the Facilities and Event Management staff in addition to overseeing the department’s business operations. He will also be responsible for the strategic planning efforts of the athletics department as it strives for future success and will maintain sport administration responsibilities.
