Under third-year head coach Margo Jonker, the 1982 team captured Central Michigan’s first ever MAC regular season and tournament championship in any female sport … compiled a 42-9 regular season record and were the No. 2 seed for the conference tournament … defeated Western Michigan in back-to-back games to clinch the MAC Championship … finished as runners-up to Michigan in the AIAW Regional Tournament, earning a bid to the AIAW World Series … placed fourth in the AIAW World Series with a 4-2 record … the 1982 team still holds the record for most wins in a single season with 51 … members of the team remain ranked in the top 10 in 16 single season records and 17 career records … pitcher Linda Pagett and third baseman Cathy Heator, earned AIAW All-America honors … centerfielder Lynn Putnam received AIAW All-Regional honors along with Pagett and Heator … Pagett, Heator, and Putnam were named to the Softball Silver Anniversary Team … Pagett, Putnam and Heator are members of the Central Michigan Athletics Hall of Fame.
