MOUNT PLEASANT — The Central Michigan Athletics Department is proud to announce the launching of Social Media Central.

As a part of the department's 2011-12 "Together We Are Maroon" campaign, fans can now "Like" and "Follow" their favorite Chippewa teams on Facebook and Twitter by visiting

Each of the program's new social media sites are intended to give Chippewa fans exclusive content and insight to the day-to-day operations of the Maroon and Gold.

"Even though the tools we use to communicate continue to advance, our job to reach fans with information remains the same," said Director of Communications Jason Kaufman. "We are very excited to have a consistent social media presence across our entire department. Our Web site serves us well as a passive one-way means of communication, but now we can interact with Chippewa fans and deliver more of the information they desire directly into their hands."

In addition to the behind-the-scenes looks at all 16 of CMU's Division I programs, fans will be able to get breaking news, photos and videos and in-game updates via twitter. Fans are also encouraged to engage in conversation through question and answer sessions.

The Social Media Central page complements the department's official athletics pages, and, as well as Director of Athletics Dave Heeke's Twitter account,

"Building a strong brand starts with consistency in our look and messaging," Director of Marketing and Community Relations Michael Dabbs said. "The launch of a unified social media campaign will prove to go a long way in our efforts to effectively communicate to our fans."
