Dear Central Michigan University Students:
The start of the 2009-2010 academic year is fast approaching and another exciting Chippewa football season is about to start. This year, CMU is committed to providing all of its students, alumni, and fans a safe and positive game day experience. A committee that included students and representatives from the campus community worked together in Spring 2009 to define new student tailgating procedures and expectations for Lot 63 on the south end of Kelly/Shorts Stadium. Please navigate through the link above for a summary of these changes.
The entire university community has made a commitment to improving your tailgating experience by adding entertainment, music, food vendors, and an increased number of restrooms in the area. These improvements will bring focus to the positive aspects of the game day experience and will discourage behaviors that are a negative reflection on the university and a risk to the safety of our students and fans.
Last year more than 1.4 million people from around the country watched our nationally televised football game and more than 113,000 people attended home football games, with many more participating in other game day events and activities. With at least six games on ESPN in 2009, now more than ever CMU is in the national spotlight.
We want the entire nation to know that the game day atmosphere at CMU ranks among the best in the country. These improvements to the tailgating area will help ensure a safe and positive experience, which is our No. 1 priority for all of our fans.
This can only be accomplished with your support beginning Sept. 19 against Alcorn State. We encourage everyone to exhibit great Chippewa Pride by representing CMU and our football program in a first-class manner. We look forward to a great season on and off the field.
Fire Up Chips!
