The Mount Pleasant Gus Macker festival will take place on the campus of CMU in lot 62, which is located in front of the Student Activity Center and immediately north of Kelly/Shorts Stadium.

The Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament was founded in 1974 by Scott McNeal, a 1979 CMU graduate. The Macker Tournament is designed so that anyone can play: male or female, young and old, short and tall, the most experienced or no experience at all. This maintains the purity and integrity of the driveway game. Since 1987, the Macker tour has held 972 tournaments with more than 2.2 million players and more than 23 million spectators. In addition to the overall economic impact of bringing thousands of players and fans into the community, the charitable aspect of the Gus Macker Tournament is an important part of each event. At each tournament site, the local organizing committee donates proceeds from their event to a local charity or charities.

The proceeds from the event will be donated to CMU’s Events Center project. The proposed Events Center will transform the university’s existing Rose Center into a first-class complex serving the academic, athletic and community needs of the university and citizens of central and northern Michigan.

This exciting family-fun filled weekend is being made possible through sponsorships with CMU Athletics, the Mount Pleasant Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, the United States Army, the CMU Program Board, Morey Courts, Heritage Automall, Morning Sun, WCFX, University Events, University Recreation and CM-Life. Anyone interested in getting involved through sponsorship opportunities can contact Hannah Smoker at 989-774-6680 or smoke1hl@cmich.edu.

This large tournament is in need of volunteers for a variety of areas; anyone wishing to volunteer their time can contact the CMU Volunteer Center at 989-774-7685 or volunteer.center@cmich.edu. CMU students may register to volunteer via the Volunteer Central Web site. Non-CMU students can use the “Gus Macker Volunteer Registration” link on the Volunteer Center Web site at http://volunteer.cmich.edu/.
