Love Joins NCAA Administration Cabinet

MOUNT PLEASANT — Central Michigan faculty athletics representative Kevin Love will be serving CMU both on campus and on the national level for the foreseeable future.

In addition to his duties at CMU, Love is serving a four-year term with the NCAA Administration Cabinet.

The cabinet’s membership is comprised of athletic directors, senior woman administrators, compliance directors and faculty athletic representatives throughout the country. The group is responsible for electing members for the different committees of the NCAA and reviewing institution applications for reclassification to Division I status. The cabinet decides on a variety of issues brought to the NCAA by the leadership council and several different committees.

Love filled in for former Mid-American Conference Associate Commissioner Dell Robinson the previous two years with his hard work on the national scene leading to an official appointment for another four years to give CMU a voice in the room at the NCAA level when the time comes to discuss new policies.

“The nomination by the MAC Commissioner and my subsequent election by the Leadership Council to this cabinet is an indication of both conference and national respect for CMU Athletics,” Love said. “This position allows me to join with all of our athletics administrative staff and coaches who serve on a number of NCAA committees and cabinets in having an impact and a voice on a national level. I have an opportunity to help shape the future of our student-athletes.”

As Central Michigan’s faculty athletics representative since 2003 and a professor of management since 1979, Love serves as the mediator between the athletics department and the academic community. His position with the administration cabinet allows him to serve in a similar capacity, this time between CMU and the NCAA.

“I have a strong student-athlete bias,” Love said. “What I mean by that is I am always concerned with the wellbeing of our student-athletes first in every decision that I make at CMU. I can carry over that bias in terms of that well being in our meetings to the NCAA level by considering how each proposal is in the best interest of the student-athletes.”

Love’s term with the cabinet runs through the summer of 2014.
