Kigar Joins CMU Athletics Department

MOUNT PLEASANT Central Michigan University Director of Athletics Dave Heeke has announced the addition of Greg Kigar as Assistant Athletics Director for Facilities/Events.

“Greg brings a wealth of experience to our administrative team,” Heeke said. “His expertise in the areas of athletic facilities and event management will be a tremendous asset to the future of Chippewa Athletics.”

Kigar, a 1987 CMU graduate, returns to his alma mater after spending the past two years as director of stadium operations at Dow Diamond, home of the Midwest League’s Great Lakes Loons in Midland, Mich. He played an integral role in the final planning and construction of the 5,400-seat ballpark and managed all staffing for both gameday and day-to-day operations at the stadium.

Prior to his time with the Loons, Kigar spent nearly two years as the director of operations at Dow Event Center in Saginaw, Mich. In that role Kigar coordinated event staffing, event set-up and security among other elements for the multi-purpose facility that hosted 200 events per year.

Kigar’s other previous experience includes time as the event manager at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Jacksonville, Fla. He also spent six years (1991-97) as the club sport coordinator and intramural coordinator at the University of Notre Dame and two years (1988-89) as assistant to the athletics director for promotions, marketing and special events at Ferris State University.

Kigar earned a bachelor of applied arts degree in sport studies from CMU. He received a master of science degree in sport management from Western Illinois University in 1992.
