MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Sadie Lynn Reynolds of the Central Michigan field hockey team has earned the 2015 Dick Enberg Scholar Athlete of the Year Award.

The Enberg Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award is presented annually to a student-athlete entering his or her senior season, carries a 3.20 or better grade-point average, has performed with distinction in his or her sport, and is considered a team leader.

The award is named for CMU alum and sports broadcasting legend Dick Enberg, who has long championed academic achievement among student-athletes.

Reynolds has started 46 consecutive games in goal for the Chippewas, and in 2014 helped lead them to their first regular-season Mid-American Conference championship since 2002 while earning Second Team All-MAC honors.

“I was up against a lot of great finalists, so I was very shocked, and honored, that I got it,” Reynolds said. “Being a student-athlete is not easy. It’s a lot of time management, which I had to learn very quickly when I got here.

“You’re constantly going from class to practice to meetings. I think my freshman year the seniors did a great job of making sure that we knew how to balance things and made sure that we stayed on top of things. Now that I’m a senior we make sure that our freshmen have it all together, have the resources that they need, that they know how to take advantage of all that the academic office offers for us.

Reynolds, who carries a 3.34 grade point average, is majoring in child development with a minor in sign language and communication disorders.

“I’ll be the first to say that I never thought that I’d be where I’m at today,” said Reynolds, who hails from Prospect, Ky. “I have to thank my parents a lot for that, and the staff here at CMU for that too. My parents have only missed one game since I’ve been here. Even in my freshman year, I wasn’t playing, and they were always there. Having that support system was very helpful.”
