MOUNT PLEASANT - As Halloween approaches the Central Michigan basketball teams showed fans why they should be feared come the 2011-12 season.
The night began with formal introductions of both teams. The women strutted out in their gold warm-ups with maroon trim and were met at half court by the men's squad who dressed to impress in all white tuxedos.
One of the highlights of the night was a dance battle between the teams in which they each got to show a different set of skills beside their basketball ones.
A skills competition followed in which a member of the men's and women's team was paired up with a CMU student. Each contestant had to compete a course that consisted of dribbling through cones and around a seated student, hitting a three-pointer and then a layup. The team who did this task in the fastest manner was that of Taylor Johnson and John Morris, who completed it in 1:33.
Closing the night was a slam dunk contest. Each member of the men's team got to take their turn at throwing down a dunk. Three finalists were chosen and it was Derek Jackson who preformed a windmill dunk to claim the title.
Both teams will kick off their seasons at home. The women will open on Nov. 11 in the Hoops for Hunger game against Northwestern at noon. The men will follow the next day in a 7 p.m. showdown with Ferris State.
