MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan baseball coach Steve Jaksa announced that six players have committed to play for the Chippewas, bringing to 11 the number of signees in Jaksa's class of 2017.
Among the most recent six signees are three left-handed pitchers, Tyler Brown of Spring, Texas; Brandon Reed of Millington; and Coan McAlpine of Hickory, N.C.
The other three are right-handed hitting outfielders Gáoshua Williams of Chicago and Jacob Crum of St. Johns and infielder Chase Patterson of Libertyville, Ill.
McAlpine, who is listed at 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds, was the valedictorian of his class at Hickory High School, and was rated the No. 9 player in North Carolina in 2014.
Brown earned a Junior College All-Star nod last year while playing at Galveston (Texas) College, where he struck out 50 in 52 innings.
Reed struck out a Millington High School record 300 while compiling an earned run average of 0.82.
Patterson, who spent last year at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., was rated the No. 5 player in Florida and No. 65 in the nation in the class of 2017 by MaxPreps.com.
Crum played last season at Lansing Community College, where he hit .409 with 12 home runs and drove in 59 runs. He also recorded 20 stolen bases en route to earning the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Eastern Conference Player of the Year Award.
Williams, who prepped at Providence Catholic in New Lenox, Ill., hit .400 and stole 22 bases in 13 games during an injury-shortened senior season.
