MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Marcus Keene is taking his explosive and entertaining game overseas.
Keene, who set a Mid-American Conference by scoring 959 points for the Central Michigan men’s basketball team last season, has signed with Cagliari Dinamo Academy of the Italian Basketball League.
Cagliari is located at the southern tip of Sardini, an island of about 1.6 million people off the western coast of Italy.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to play professional basketball in Italy next season,” said Keene, a 5-foot-9 guard who hails from San Antonio, Texas. “My time at CMU helped open doors to start fulfilling a dream of mine of having a career of playing the game I love.
“I thank and appreciate my family, friends, fans, teammates, coaches and everyone else who helped support me along the way.”
Keene became the first NCAA Division I player to average at least 30 points per game in 2016-17 when he earned All-America Honorable Mention, turning in dazzling performance after dazzling performance and bringing unprecedented national exposure to the Chippewa program.
“Marcus brought a tremendous amount of exposure to our program, and he made a major impact in his time here,” CMU coach Keno Davis said. “He really helped raise the status of the program among CMU alumni and fans, and he helped raise our national profile.”
