Reed Schuitema is in his third season as Central Michigan’s director of football operations, overseeing the day-to-day administration of the program.
Among Schuitema’s duties are team travel coordination, bowl game preparation, facility updates, and budget.
Schuitema also serves as head coach John Bonamego’s liaison to many departments within the athletic department and across campus.
Schuitema came to Central Michigan from Miami (Ohio), where he served as director of football operations from 2011-13. As a member of coach Don Treadwell’s staff, Schuitema served as liaison to the Mid-American Conference office along with the university’s academics, compliance, equipment and training departments.
Schuitema worked as a graduate assistant at Michigan State for coach Mark Dantonio from 2009-10, assisting with team travel preparations, bowl game preparations, and on-campus recruiting. During his time at Michigan State, the Spartans went to two bowl games (2009 Alamo, 2010 Capital One) in addition to winning the Big Ten championship in 2010.
From 2005-09, Schuitema worked as a student manager under coach Tom Izzo in the Michigan State men’s basketball program. Schuitema was part of a program that reached the NCAA Final Four after winning the Big Ten title in 2009.
A native of Muskegon, Mich., Schuitema earned his bachelor’s degree in human resource management in 2009 and his master’s degree in sports administration in 2010, both from Michigan State. He attended Mona Shores High School, serving as a captain of the football team, while also participating in hockey and tennis.
