Andre English is in his first season as an assistant coach with the Central Michigan track & field program, specializing as a sprints/hurdles coach.

English served for the previous two years as the head cross country/track & field coach at Marietta (Ohio) College, where, in addition to his coaching duties, he worked to enhance alumni relations and fundraising.

Prior to taking the job at Marietta, English spent five seasons as an assistant at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo., where he oversaw the program’s sprinters, hurdlers and relay teams.

Among those that English coached at SBU was William Shell, a long sprinter who in 2014 was named the Division II Central Region Men’s Track Athlete of the Year and earned CoSIDA/Capitol One All-America honors.

English mentored 10 All-Americans and 26 All-Region honorees, and assisted in grooming at least one indoor or outdoor All-American in all five of his seasons at SBU.

English began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant at Kentucky while pursuing his master’s degree in kinesiology. In his first year with the Wildcats, English made an instant impact, assembling and developing a 4x400-meter men’s relay team that won the Southeastern Conference indoor title and went on to achieve All-America honors.

English was a standout hurdler as a student-athlete at the University of Illinois. He was a four-time regional qualifier and in 2004 qualified for the NCAA Championships. He was a two-time runner-up in the Big Ten Championships in the 60-meter hurdles (2004) and in the 110-meter hurdles (2006).

English earned his bachelor’s degree from Illinois in recreation, sport and tourism in 2006.
