ALLENDALE, Mich. - True freshman sprinter Jack Dodge made a splash in his first stab at the men's 400 meters, clocking CMU's fastest time this season, 48.31 seconds, for a runner-up finish on Saturday at the Grand Valley State Big Meet.
Dodge already owns the team's fastest 200-meter time, an adjusted 21.58 he posted at the Jack Skoog Open, which ranks fifth in the conference and qualifies him for the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships.
With his team-leading effort on Saturday, Dodge adds a No. 6 ranking on the MAC Performance List for the 400, but has a little work left to do to meet the qualifying mark of 47.95 seconds.
CMU's other highlights:
Senior Hannah Davis was third out of 70 runners in the women's mile run. Her time of 5:04.05 was just .06 off her personal best, which she set last week in Akron.
The men's distance medley relay team, comprising redshirt freshmen Logan Kleam and Emmett Smrcka, sophomore Luke Anderson, and senior Erick Huertas, clocked a time of 10:01.01 to place fifth out of 15 entries.
The quartet now sits atop the conference Performance List for the event, edging Eastern Michigan's 10:02.97 from the Saginaw Valley Jet's Pizza Invitational.
Redshirt freshman Carissa Gobbi cut 24 seconds off her previous best to take a 15th place finish out of 54 in the women's 3,000 meters.
The Chippewas will head to the University of Michigan on Friday, Feb. 16 for the Silverston Invitational. Events begin at 1 p.m.
