Chippewas Earn Academic Honors From Coaches Association

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Central Michigan ranked 14th in the nation academically and three Chippewas earned All-Academic recognition from the National Wrestling Coaches Association.



The Chippewas recorded a 3.29 team grade point average this season. Harvard topped the list with a 3.56.

It marks the second consecutive season that CMU has earned the team award and the 19th time since 1993.


CMU's Mason Smith, CJ Brucki and Jordan Atienza earned individual honors, which go to student-athletes who won at least 60 percent of their matches during the 2017-18 season and hold a GPA of 3.2 or better. 

Brucki, a senior from Orland Park, Ill., and Smith, a redshirt sophomore from Clio, earned the honor for the second consecutive season.

Brucki is an accounting major, while Smith is undecided on a major. Atienza is a junior from Livonia and a finance major.


CMU is one of four Mid-American Conference teams on the NWCA Top 30. Kent State (3.49) is second, Eastern Michigan (3.33) is 11th, and Northern Illinois is (3.18) is 22nd.
