MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Catherine Ostoich's first game as the Central Michigan field hockey coach will be at Colgate on Aug. 24, when the Chippewas open the 2018 season with a nonleague game against the Raiders.
The Chippewas released their 17-game schedule today. CMU begins the season with back-to-back road trips, the first to Colgate, N.Y., and the second to Philadelphia, where they will play two games two days against LaSalle.
CMU's home opener is scheduled for Sept. 6 against Pacific, and its first Mid-American Conference contest is slated for Sept. 15 at home against Longwood.
"I am very excited for this fall schedule and the opportunity it provides to set the new standard for Central Michigan field hockey," said Ostoich, who was named the Chippewas' coach in January. "We have many great opponents who will test us this fall, and I am excited to see this team rise to these new challenges.
"Starting the season with our two weekends away gives us the opportunity early on to set the tone and work through adversity."
The Chippewas will play six home games, capped by the regular-season finale on Oct. 19 against Ball State.
The Chippewas will play nonconference games against three teams from the America East Conference (Pacific, Stanford, UC Davis), three from the Atlantic 10 (Saint Francis (Pa), Saint Louis, Davidson), two from the Big Ten (Michigan, Michigan State) and one from the Patriot League (Colgate).
