RIO VERDE, Ariz. - Freshman Jami Laude shot a 4-over-par 76 on Friday to lead Central Michigan during the first round of the Rio Verde Invitational on Quail Run Golf Course at Rio Verde Golf Club.
Laude is among a group tied for 15th, five shots behind leader Jacinta Pikunas of Akron. Pikunas posted a 1-under 71 and was the only player in the 95-player field to finish under par in Friday's opening round.
The tournament continues with round two on Saturday and concludes with the third round on Sunday.
The Chippewas posted a 321 team score on Friday and are tied for 14th with Bowling Green in the 17-team field.
Little Rock shot 305 on Friday and leads by one shot over Akron. Seton Hall (307) is third, and defending champion Eastern Michigan (308) is fourth.
CMU senior Natalie Johnson shot 80 on Friday and is among a grouped tied for 47th. Also for the Chippewas, junior Brian Colosky shot 81, sophomore Danielle Sawyer carded an 84 and senior Kristen Wolfe shot 91. CMU's Holly Hines, a senior playing as an individual, shot 85.
