RIO VERDE, Ariz. - Jami Laude shot a 7-over-par 79 on Saturday to lead the Central Michigan golf team during the second round of the Rio Verde Invitational on Rio Verde Country Club's Quail Run Course.
The Chippewas shot 329 as a team on Saturday after posting a 321 total in Friday's opening round. CMU sits in 17th place in the 17-team event with a 650 total. The Chippewas trail 16th-place Illinois State by nine shots.
Akron shot 293 on Saturday for a 599 team total and a four-shot lead over second-place Seton Hall. Akron's Danielle Nicholson shot a 4-under 68 on Saturday, the low round of the tournament.
Also for CMU on Saturday, Bria Colosky shot 80, and Natalie Johnson and Danielle Sawyer both posted an 85, and Kristen Wolfe carded an 87.
CMU's Holly Hines, playing as an individual, shot 91.
Laude stands at 11-over for the tournament and is among a group tied for 37th, while Colosky is 17-over and tied for 63rd. Johnson is 21-over, Sawyer is 25-over, Hines is 32-over, and Wolfe is 34-over.
The third and final round is scheduled for Sunday.
Akron's Nicholson rebounded from an opening-round 76 to post her 68 on Saturday. She is at even par and leads the tournament by one shot over Sarah Childers of Arkansas State and Taryn Torgenson of Wichita State.
