MESA, Ariz. - The Central Michigan women's golf team shot a 332 total Friday in the opening round of the Clover Cup at Longbow Golf Club.
The three-day, 54-hole event, hosted by Notre Dame, continues on Saturday and concludes on Sunday.
The Chippewas are in 17th place in the 17-team event. TCU shot posted a 4-under 284 for a one-shot lead over SMU. South Florida is third after an even-par 288.
Chloe Guschewski and Kristen Wolfe both shot 81 to lead CMU, while Natalie Johnson carded an 83. Also for the Chippewas, Bria Colosky shot 87 and Holly Hines shot 92.
"With Chloe, I thought her round was good," CMU coach Cheryl Stacy said. "Tee to green she hit it really well. She missed some short putts so that kept her from being under 80. I think overall she was pleased with her game.
"Kristen took a double (bogey) coming in, so she was right there to break 80 too.
"The course isn't easy. The greens are kind of tricky. Hopefully they'll learn from today and improve tomorrow."
Brooke Graebe of TCU and Nicole Autrique of South Florida both shot 5-under 67 to share first place.
