BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Freshman Danielle Sawyer shot a 5-over par 78 on Sunday as the Central Michigan women's golf team finished third in the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational at Stone Ridge Golf Club.
The Chippewas posted a 323 team score to finish at 635, 20 shots behind first-place Ohio, which closed with a 310. Host Bowling Green finished second at 630 (318-312) in the 10-team field.
The third-place finish was CMU's best in a tournament since the program was resurrected in the fall of 2014.
CMU's Natalie Johnson, who shot 73 on Saturday for a share of the first-round lead, posted an 8-over 80 on Sunday and finished tied for third at 153.
Hailey Hrynewich of Ohio closed with an even-par 72 on Sunday to finish at 1-over 145 and win the tournament. Finoa Schmidt of Oakland was second at 4-over.
Johnson's third-place finish ties Arielle Roberts for the best finish by a CMU player since the beginning of the 2014 season. Roberts placed third in the Butler Benbow Invitational March 9-10, 2015, in Jacksonville, Fla.
Sawyer, who opened with a 79 on Sunday, finished tied for eighth at 13-over 157.
Also for the Chippewas on Sunday, Holly Hines shot 80 to finish at 162, Kristen Wolfe shot 85 and Bria Colosky carded a 95. Wolfe finished at 163, Colosky at 185.
The Chippewas' Amanda Walsh and Katie Logan, both playing as individuals, shot 89 on Sunday. Walsh finished at 173, Logan at 174.
CMU goes to the Mid-American Conference Championship April 21-23 at Silver Lake Country Club in Kent, Ohio.
