By Andy Sneddon, - NORMAL, Ill. – Central Michigan’s Arielle Roberts shot a 4-over-par 76 Monday to finish tied for 43rd place in the Redbird Invitational at Weibring Golf Club.

It was the first varsity women’s golf event for Central Michigan since 1982. The Chippewas finished 15th in the 16-team field with a 973 team score.

Host Illinois State won the 54-hole, two-day tournament with a 910 score, 12 shots ahead of runners-up Northern Illinois and Butler. Ball State (925) was fourth.

The Chippewas shot their second consecutive 325 in Monday’s final round. CMU opened the tournament on Sunday morning by posting a 323. The Chippewas finished six shots better than 16th-place Evansville.

Roberts, one of four freshmen in the five-player CMU lineup, etched her name twice in the Chippewa record books. Her final-round 76 ties her with Stacey Dutcher for the second-best 18-hole round in school history, and her 54-hole 237 total is the best ever by a CMU player.

Dutcher shot her 76 during the Cincinnati Invitational in 1981. Laurie Rederstorf set the school standard with a 75 in 1982.

Roberts, who opened with 84-77 on Sunday, bested Dutcher for the top three-round score in school history. Roberts finished with 237. Dutcher set the previous mark, 244, at the Spartan Invitational in 1981.

The Chippewas set the school standard for a team score (1004) in a 54-hole event during that ’81 Spartan Invitational. Their 973 at the Redbird eclipsed that mark.

Also for the Chippewas on Monday, senior Grace Labrecque shot 81, Natalie Johnson posted an 82, Kristen Wolfe came in at 86, and Amanda Walsh finished with an 88.

Labrecque and Wolfe both finished the tournament with a 245 total to come in in a group tied for 65th. Walsh finished at 252, while Johnson was at 255.

Brianna Cooper of Illinois State closed with an even-par 72 to finish at 2-over 218 to claim medalist honors. Danielle Lemek of Bradley and Jenna Peters of Butler tied for second, six shots back.
