Chippewas Make 16-shot Leap at Oakland

ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Arielle Roberts and Natalie Johnson both shot 7-over 79 Sunday to lead the Central Michigan women's golf team during the final round of the Golden Grizzlies Invitational at Oakland's Katke-Cousins Golf Course.

Roberts, who posted an 83 in Saturday's opening round, finished with a 162 total to tie for 19th place in the 45-player field.

Ohio shot a 303 team score on Sunday to win the 36-hole event with a 618 team total, six shots better than runner-up Oakland. The Chippewas shot 327 on Sunday and finished in sixth place at 670.

CMU improved its team total by 16 strokes from round one to round two, and Johnson led the surge, improving by 12 strokes. Five of the six Chippewas who participated in the event improved their scores from Saturday to Sunday.

CMU's Chloe Guschewski shot 83-82 - 165 to finish tied for 24th, while Johnson came in at 170 to tie for 29th.

Other Chippewa scores: Grace Labrecque, 87-86 - 173; Hannah Matthies, 95-93 - 188; Kristen Wolfe, 97-96 - 193.

Angela Codian of Ohio posted Sunday's lowest round, a 2-under 70, and finished second overall at 150. Oakland's Elle Nichols shot 74-75--149 to earn medalist honors.

The Chippewas close the fall portion of their schedule Oct. 13-14 at the Rocket Classic, hosted by Toledo, in Port Clinton, Ohio.
