Chippewas 9th After Day 1 at Rocket Classic

PORT CLINTON, Ohio - Arielle Roberts shot 80-75 - 155 Monday to lead the Central Michigan women's golf team on the first day of the Rocket Classic at Catawba Island Golf Club.

The Chippewas shot 333-317 - 650 and stand in ninth place in the 13-team event.

Host Toledo shot 302-297 - 599 and leads the tournament by nine shots over Western Michigan, which shot 301-307 - 608.

Roberts is tied for 16th place with Jessica Knapp of Western Illinois. The field comprises 78 players.

Also for CMU, Chloe Guschewski shot 82-81 - 163; Grace Labrecque carded 85-80 - 165; Amanda Walsh posted 87-81 - 168; and Natalie Johnson shot 86-86 - 172.

CMU's Kristen Wolfe, playing as an individual, shot 82-79 - 161.

Labrecque is a senior. The other five Chippewas are freshmen.

Labrecque's second-round 80 included four birdies, while Roberts and Wolfe recorded one birdie apiece in their respective rounds. Roberts, Guschewski, Labrecque and Wolfe had one birdie each in the first round.

Santhika Ruenreong of Toledo carded par of even-par 72s and leads the tournament by one shot over teammate Manisa Isavas, who shot 71-74 - 155.

The tournament concludes with the third and final round on Tuesday. It is the final event of the fall season for the Chippewas.
