Three Chippewas Among Top 30 At GAM Championship

ANN ARBOR – Kristen Wolfe finished 22nd to lead the Central Michigan contingent at the 25th Golf Association of Michigan Women’s Championship at Polo Fields Golf & Country Club.

Wolfe, a junior-to-be at CMU, shot 77-84 — 161 in the 36-hole, two-day stroke play event that concluded on Tuesday.

Central Michigan’s Natalie Johnson and future Chippewa Katie Logan were among a group tied for 28th at 165. Johnson, who is also headed into her junior year, posted scores of 84-81; Logan, an incoming freshman out of Allen Park Cabrini High School, shot 80-85.

The field comprised 61 players. Anna Kramer of Spring Lake made a par on the first playoff hole to defeat Morgan Smith of Muskegon and win the tournament. Kramer and Smith both finished the regulation 36 holes at 148.

Another incoming freshman, Danielle Sawyer of Grafton, Ont., tied for eighth last week in the Ontario Junior Championship.

Sawyer finished with an 18-over 306 total. She opened with an 80 and followed with rounds of 73, 71 and 82. Sixty players comprised the field for the event, which was played at Loyalist Country Club in Bath, Ont.
