SETTING THE SCENE
The Central Michigan golf team will play in the Eastern Michigan Shirley Spork Invitational on Monday and Tuesday. The 54-hole stroke-play event begins with two 18-hole rounds on Monday and concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday.
Scheduled to join the Chippewas and host Eastern Michigan are Bowling Green, Cleveland State, Marshall, Oakland, Ohio, Dayton, Youngstown State and Western Michigan. Players from Purdue will be in the field, playing as individuals.
• The Chippewas finished second in the six-team Kzoo Classic, hosted by Western Michigan, at The Moors in Portage, Mich. The Chippewas finished with a 54-hole 935 team score, the second-best in program history. They finished ahead of MAC brethren Western Michigan, Ohio and Eastern Michigan.
• The second-place finish is CMU’s best tournament finish since it resurrected the program before the 2014-15 season after a three-plus-decade hiatus.
• Kristen Wolfe and Natalie Johnson led the Chippewas, finishing at 19-over par and among a group tied for seventh place.
CMU closes the fall portion of its schedule at the University of Dayton Invitational on Oct. 16-17. The Chippewas begin their spring schedule in early February with the MAC Match Play Challenge in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
