MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Central Michigan soccer team dropped its opener in the Marquette Invitational to the host Golden Eagles, 1-0, on Friday.
The Chippewas slipped to 2-2-1 and they look to close weekend on a winning note on Sunday (5:30 p.m.) when they face Loyola. The Ramblers (3-2) topped Mercer 5-2 on Friday.
“The game overall was pretty good,” CMU coach Peter McGahey said. “I was proud of what the team did in the second half. I thought they really gave all that Marquette could handle and we were unlucky not to sneak a goal in.”
Kylie Sprecher scored the game’s lone goal at the 17:35 mark with the assist by Carrie Madden and Darian Powell.
The Chippewas finished with a 15-12 advantage in shots, including a 12-4 edge in the second half. The corner kicks were even at three aside.
Zoie Reed went the distance in goal for Central Michigan with five saves. Maddy Henry had two saves in goal for the Golden Eagles (4-1).
Lexi Pelafas had four shots for the Chippewas while Madison Pogarch added three.
