MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Central Michigan volleyball team ended its first week of practice with high intensity. The team returns two-time all-league performer Jordan Bueter and five starters from last season.
Second-year coach Mike Gawlik said that the Chippewas have been focusing on the building blocks for the program during the first week of preseason.
“I think week one for most teams is a refresher on the fundamentals,” Gawlik said. “You try to talk about some of your schemes and some of the things that your program builds itself on. I think we’ve reviewed those and even taken steps forward to improve.”
After adding five newcomers, the Chippewas will look to build off of a fifth-place finish in the Mid-American Conference. CMU will open the 2017 campaign on Saturday, Aug. 19, with an exhibition match versus Ferris State at 5 p.m. in McGuirk Arena.
The regular season begins Aug. 25 at the Army Invitational against St. Francis Brooklyn in West Point, N.Y.
