MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan’s Megan Kern has been named to the NCAA Division I District 5 Academic All-District Second Team.
Kern, a sophomore from LaGrange, Ill., is a biomedical sciences major who carries a 4.0 grade point average. She led the Chippewas this season in both digs (409) and digs per set (3.72). Kern was one of eight student-athletes nationally honored as second-team Academic All-Americans for Division 1.
Kern is the first Chippewa since 2012 to earn this award and the fourth Chippewa to receive second team honors. In 2012, Lindsey Dulude was named to the first team.
The all-district teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America and they recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
To be eligible for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA and must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's matches. District winners now move onto the national ballot for consideration for Academic All-America honors.
